One of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on..
Being connected to the web is crucial for nearly everything these days. But internet connectivity varies wildly by availability, cost and quality depending on where you are in the world.
The EIU (The Economist Intelligence Unit) did a year of original research to understand the availability, cost and quality of internet access in every country in the world. Then ranked them.
My job was to figure out how we could present this in a way that simple to understand as a story, and useful as a research tool. Given the finding of the survey, I wanted to be sure they it could be accessed by anyone - even people with expensive and limited web access.
We created a simple version that could be accessed on a flip phone, and versions with more features that could be accessed in places with good web availability. We were even able to get it running on the browser of a Game Boy Advance.
Because the research was so useful, and accessible it became a go to source for global policy makers.
This project was so successful, it continues to be updated annual by The Economist.
